Situated in Kendall County, Oswego is a northeast Illinois village with a population of about 30,000 people. The number of individuals living in Oswego has more than doubled since 2000 when the population was 13,000 according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Oswego is the largest village in Kendall County.
Oswego’s first settlers were William and Rebecca Wilson. William Wilson and his brother-in-law Daniel Pierce moved their families in 1833 and settled the area. In 1835, two businessmen laid out the village and officially purchased the land in 1842. The U.S. Government established a post office in the village in 1835 and from 1845 to 1864 Oswego served as the county seat of Kendall County.
Oswego is a growing village that has something for everyone. The village is home to a thriving business community that provides shopping opportunities and jobs for residents of Oswego. There are two hotels in the village, the AmericaInn Lodge and Suites and the Holiday Inn Express and Suites. Oswego is also home to more than 70 restaurants that will satisfy any person’s appetite. Individuals looking to explore the village should visit the Fox Valley Winery for a wine tasting and tour and also historic Downtown Oswego. There are also museums and parks located in Oswego including the Little White School Museum, Hudson Crossing Park and the Veterans Memorial Walk.
One benefit of living in Oswego is the weather throughout the summer season. Daytime temperatures vary from the low to mid-80s on average and dip into the 70s at night. However, the village is not immune to heat waves. On the warmest days of the year, temperatures will easily climb up to the 90s so residents should have central air conditioning units installed in their homes.
